Despite these problems with Sun, burns, heat exhaustion and heat stroke are not diseases that can be very serious and could put a real brake on holiday. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure when dealing with the sun. Note that the sun's rays are strongest between noon and three hours, in the tropics and at high altitudes, even if it is a cloudy or overcast day.

What can you do to avoid getting a sunburn when travel to sunny vacation destinations?

In general, the fairer or lighter your skin, the easier they can sunburn. Even clouds offer little or no protection from a severe burn. So why take the risk of ruining your vacation by getting a painful sunburn is easy to protect against? To avoid have a serious burn, especially if you sunburn easily, use a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 30, or stronger if possible. Use protective solar abundance, using a wide-brimmed sun hat, choose sunglasses UVA and UVB sun protection certificate, and wearing a long sleeve shirt and pants. Try to stay out of the sun between noon and three in the afternoon. Build your sun exposure gradually, day by day. Limit the time you spend in the sun for about fifteen minutes the first day and increase your time in the sun gradually in subsequent days.

What can you do to treat a severe sunburn?

You may ease the pain of a sunburn by soaking in a cool bath three or four times a day. If you add some baking soda to each bath, help further. Cool showers probably too much damage, and are not as efficient or smooth as cool, relaxing baths. To help with the headache or pain and swelling, take aspirin or other pain relievers such as Advil or ibuprofen. Do not take aspirin based pain medications if you are on blood thinners or have an ulcer. If you not sure if it is safe for you to take these drugs for pain, consult a doctor or medical clinic. To avoid dehydration, drink at least six to eight glasses of water a day. Do not break blisters if you can help. Open blisters can become infected easily, especially in damp weather of the tropics. If break, wash gently with soap and warm water.

If sunburn does not seem to be improving and still has pain after a couple of days, it develops high temperature or fever, a headache that will not go, is vomiting or has diarrhea, dizziness or confusion, or your eyes hurt and light bothers them, you should seek medical attention immediately.

What can be done to prevent heat exhaustion?

Heat exhaustion is totally preventable. Using a batch brimmed sun hat, drink liquids and stay out of intense heat and humidity will help prevent this serious problem.

What should you do if you have the symptoms of heat exhaustion?

Heat exhaustion is caused by a combination high temperature and humidity. This can result in loss of body fluids through excessive sweating. These liquids must be quickly replaced or heat exhaustion can result.

Symptoms include headache, fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, and muscle cramps. The treatment is immediately out of the sun or heat and drink plenty of liquids, preferably commercial beverages containing electrolytes such as Gatorade. Do not drink any alcohol as this will worsen their situation.

If you do not feel better and show positive signs of recovery within a very short time, have someone help you get to a hospital immediately as your condition could easily move into a true medical emergency called heat stroke.

What steps should be taken away if you get heat stroke?

When heat exhaustion is not successfully treated immediately, can result in very serious medical emergency. Heat stroke is characterized by high body temperatures in Fahrenheit 102 to 106 degrees, or 39 to 41 degrees Celsius. There is also a cessation of sweating. The symptoms of heat stroke are flushed, red skin, headache and confusion, which can progress into delirium and convulsions, and can be fatal.

Note: Someone must help you out quickly by the sun or heat and rushing to a hospital immediately.
